MEET THE WINEMAKER EVENING with wines of Romania

MEET THE WINEMAKER EVENING with wines of Romania

A unique opportunity to attend this special evening at the Wine School with the Head Winemaker, Philip Cox, at Cramele Recas of Romania

Home-grown wine in Romania has existed for more than 2,700 years, triumphing vine blights, world wars, corseting by political regimes and associated upheavals, and national and international financial depressions. Romania’s potential was notably klaxoned by Hugh Johnson OBE in his World Atlas of Wine:

‘Of the rapidly-expanding wine country of the Black Sea and the Balkans, Romania almost certainly has the greatest potential for quality. It is not only a matter of situation - though Romania lies on the same latitude as France - but of temperament...’

Cramele [literally 'cellar'] Recas is a premium wine estate located on the far western fringes of the Romanian region of Transylvania/Banat – near Romania's third largest city, Timisoara.

Founded in 1998, Cramele Recas has become a private Romanian/British company owned by winemaking team made up of three families, including husband-and-wife teams Philip and Elvira Cox

The vineyards, said to be some of the oldest in the world, were first planted in the area by the Romans with documents dating back to 1447 on the Recas vineyard land.

Over the last 10 years, Recas has developed a range of modern, fruit driven wines that perfectly express the traditions and terroir of this ancient wine region. Today after more than 30 million Euros of investment, Cramele Recaş is one of Romania’s most important wineries
