Steak and Malbec Night
Wednesday 17th April is officially World Malbec Day (or Malbec World Day)! Every year, in April, Malbec lovers around the world celebrate the deliciously deep and chocolatey wines made by this superb grape. We want you to be able to let your hair down so we are celebrating on the Friday before, 12th April.
What goes well with Malbec? One thing in particular comes to mind – Steak! We take our inspiration from our friends in Argentina who have put this food and wine pairing to the test with enormous success. This will be a full dinner so no need to eat beforehand. Vegetarian/Vegan options will also be available.
For our own Malbec journey, we will be enjoying some superb examples from Argentina; packed with blackberry fruit and a twist of peppery spice we're sure you'll agree it's a modern classic. As well as beautiful examples from Mendoza, packed with spicy chocolatey flavours, we'll be trying some from the high altitudes of Salta.
As we will discover, World Malbec Day is the perfect excuse to try wines from other countries made with this grape variety. In fact, the date itself, 17th April, is significant as the anniversary of the decision (taken in 1853 by the Argentinian President) to first import Malbec vines into to Argentina from France. So, another stop on our global tour of Malbec will be in South West France, where the town of Cahors (near Bordeaux) has long been recognised locally as the original home of Malbec. If you are an Argentinian Malbec fan who has never tried an example from Cahors, we are sure you won't want to miss this opportunity!
Thanks to the great work done in Argentina, this grape variety is taking off around the world, so we'll make a stop off looking at the new countries getting in on the Malbec act. Plenty of wines to keep you red wine lovers excited! So, come along and discover more about the past, present and future of this wonderful wine alongside a tasty steak and chips dinner!
